Sage Canchola-Welch (she/her), Principal and Founder

Sage pulls from more than 15 years of experience in issue communications and climate and energy policy. Prior to founding Sunstone Strategies in the fall of 2018, Sage served as vice president of Cater Communications, overseeing Cater’s policy and communications work in California and nationally.

Sage combines policy expertise with strategic communications and campaigning chops, and has led impactful climate campaigns from California to Tennessee to DC to Australia. She spends too much time on Twitter, but also develops winning strategies, oversees coalitions and consistently generates top-tier media coverage for clients.

Sage became hooked on climate issues while developing an ecological justice advocacy program for an order of nuns in Australia. She graduated summa cum laude from Vermont Law School with a master’s degree in environmental law and policy and also has a bachelor’s in history and politics from the University of Melbourne and a graduate diploma in media studies from La Trobe University.

She lives in Oakland with her husband and two little boys.
