Mamelang Memela (she/her), Program Associate

Prior to joining Sunstone Strategies in April 2022, Mamelang worked in Portland,OR where she co-facilitated community engagement, issue advocacy and projects within an environmental justice organization. A water protector indigenous to the plateaus of Johannesburg, South Africa, Mamelang currently resides on occupied lands of the Chinookan territories in the Pacific Northwest.

Mamelang served on the Governor’s Racial Justice Council Environmental Equity Committee in Oregon and was part of a group of climate organizers who worked with the City of Portland and Multnomah County to map potential collaborative approaches to climate resiliency efforts.

Mamelang graduated, cum laude with honors, from Lewis & Clark College in 2020 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Environmental Studies and French Studies. During her time in college she served as a student representative on the Sustainability Council.
