Alex Mountfield (she/her), Program Associate

Before joining Sunstone in August 2023, Alex was a Research Associate at Strategy for Humanity, where she helped INGOs and philanthropic organizations around the world to develop effective approaches to strategy, advocacy, and governance. Her research focuses included political violence, social policy, and multilateralism. She has worked extensively on international climate finance, green development, energy security, and climate-related violence and forced displacement.

Alex began her career in Ireland, where she worked as a policy analyst in the Civil Service. She holds a first-class honors degree in Political Science & Sociology from Trinity College Dublin. She has also been a literature editor, a youth worker, and a theatrical technician.

In her free time, Alex is an instructor at Defend Yourself, where she teaches safety skills to trans people in the District of Columbia. She also serves as board secretary of Traveling Players Ensemble, a local nonprofit arts education organization.
